Houzz Releases UK Construction AI Report
Over 145 construction and design professionals were surveyed for the report.

Houzz Inc. has released its first-ever UK Houzz State of AI in Construction and Design Report, providing a detailed look into how the industry is evolving with the rapidly changing AI environment. The report is based on a survey of over 145 construction and design professionals.

Nearly half of industry professionals are already using AI in their businesses (46%), and they report saving an average of over three hours per week, citing benefits like greater productivity, reduced manual effort and improved organisation.

This savings translates to more than £23,000 in annual productivity gains per business. Strikingly, three in five respondents believe AI will transform the industry within the next five years (60%).

Industry Awareness and Adoption

Awareness of AI is already widespread across the industry, with 7 in 10 professionals saying that they know about AI (72%). Only 18% are not very familiar with AI and 10% report no exposure at all.

Notably, 3 in 5 professionals are familiar with AI tools specifically designed for construction and design workflows (72%). Alon Cohen, Houzz co-founder and CEO, said, “AI innovation in construction and design is accelerating, creating a competitive advantage for pros who adopt it,”

“As the report shows, pros in our industry are approaching this era with openness and a strong desire to learn. The future is about adopting AI to build stronger, more successful businesses.”

The report also highlights the importance of industry leaders, such as Houzz, in delivering powerful AI capabilities to boost productivity across every phase of a project and client relationship. By providing AI-powered tools, Houzz aims to support professionals in their adoption of AI, ultimately driving business success.

AI Applications in Construction and Design

The report highlights several areas where AI is being applied, including administrative work (79% across all professionals), sales and marketing (52%), planning and design (33%), project and client management (31%), and business operations & reporting (21%).

Nearly two-thirds of design and construction professionals who use AI are satisfied with their experience (61%), and 60% say AI has had a moderate to significant impact on their workflow.

However, concerns persist, including the reliability and accuracy of AI-generated outputs, data security and privacy risks, and a lack of adequate training or technical expertise. Designer Andrea Yorston Interior Design notes, “We know AI could save us time, but most tools require a level of training and experimentation that just isn’t realistic when you’re running projects day to day.”

The need for accessible training and support is further emphasized by the fact that many AI tools are designed to work in conjunction with existing workflows, making it essential for professionals to have a solid understanding of how to integrate these tools into their daily work. This integration can help professionals to start benefiting from AI capabilities straight away, without requiring extensive training or technical expertise.

Opportunities for Integration and Training

This points to an opportunity for solutions that integrate AI into familiar workflows and provide accessible ways for construction and design professionals to incorporate emerging technologies. Houzz Pro, for example, weaves AI throughout its entire platform.

While features like estimates, takeoffs and visualisation are the most visible, the technology is integrated across its project management and design tools to help professionals adopt AI naturally in their daily work.

With the right tools and training, professionals can harness the power of AI to improve productivity, efficiency, and overall success. By doing so, the industry can unlock the full potential of AI and drive growth, innovation, and success.
