A penthouse in Bengaluru blends modern design with family legacy, creating a home where tradition and contemporary living coexist seamlessly. The Risa Home, perched atop the city’s skyline, reflects a deliberate approach to space that honors heritage while adapting to the needs of a modern family.
Balancing heritage and modern living
The project began as a five-bedroom residence but was reimagined into a four-bedroom home to better suit the family’s evolving lifestyle. The design, led by Concepto Studio, prioritizes warmth, luxury, and continuity—every detail ties back to the family’s history while adopting modern comforts.
The living room sets the tone with a striking contrast: a bold red leather couch anchors the space, while softer armchairs in whites and ethnic prints create a balanced, inviting atmosphere. Architectural arches painted in earthy lime wash frame gatherings, subtly connecting the home to its cultural roots. Refurbished family furniture and a lush rug from Carpet Kingdom reinforce the sense of legacy, ensuring the space feels both timeless and lived-in.
This duality extends to the open kitchen and breakfast bar, where lively wallpaper and traditional Indian motifs meet a cosmopolitan aesthetic. Dark green cabinetry and cool black accents ground the space, while artisanal crockery and bespoke art plates above the dining table celebrate family rituals without sacrificing sophistication.
A home shaped by generations
The penthouse spans two levels, each tailored to different family members. The lower level houses the parents’ bedroom and a dedicated home theater—a private retreat that also serves as a communal space for shared experiences. The upper level features the master suite and children’s quarters, ensuring privacy while maintaining a sense of connection across the home.
Each bedroom reflects its occupants’ personalities while maintaining a cohesive design language. The master suite, draped in jewel-toned browns and mossy greens, incorporates custom woodwork and colonial-inspired crown mouldings. A four-poster wicker bed and built-in consoles blend grandeur with everyday functionality.
The parents’ bedroom, bathed in earthy browns, nods to native design with white wardrobes adorned in ethnic accents and open traditional shelving. Meanwhile, the children’s suite merges two bedrooms into a playful, expansive space. A teepee-style bed and a suspended wicker swing introduce whimsy, while pastel wardrobes and botanical wallpaper create a storybook atmosphere.
A fourth bedroom in serene white features geometric wardrobe accents and cool blue wallpaper, offering a calm retreat. A plush tufted headboard and a floating study table enhance its functionality, while a window-seat nook invites reading and reflection.
Shared spaces like the home theater, cloaked in deep greys with rich brown couches, and the dining zone, set against a gold-flecked marble wall, reinforce the home’s role as a gathering place. Every piece of furniture, from the living room to the theater sofa, leverages existing family pieces, sensitively refurbished to honor legacy and sustainable luxury.
Persistent throughout The Risa Home is a use of lime-washed finishes, lending a tactile, changeable glow as daylight shifts, from dawn’s subdued hues to evening’s warmth. Rugs, swings, cane, and carefully selected furnishings raise each room’s comfort, ensuring the home feels cohesive without ever sacrificing individuality.
Beyond aesthetics, the home’s structure reflects practicality. The lower level’s theater and parents’ bedroom provide quiet spaces, while the upper level’s master suite and children’s rooms allow for privacy. Yet the open layout ensures no room feels isolated, reinforcing the family’s bond.
A living legacy in every detail
The Risa Home stands as a sign of how heritage and contemporary design can coexist. By repurposing family furniture and integrating cultural motifs into modern spaces, the penthouse becomes more than a residence; it’s a curated experience where every object tells a story.
